It has a long history that began when George Henry King (a landholder from Glebe) sold his estate to William Charles Wentworth and built houses on it for himself and his family. In 1856-7 he subdivided the land into two parcels, naming them Woollahra after a village in India where he had travelled as an officer with the East India Company’s army. It was a part of Sydney County until 1859.
Woollahra, NSW is still known as one of the most prestigious suburbs in Sydney.
